Get To Know Your Favorite Estrellita

I am Estrella, a Latina College + Post Grad Coach, Thought Leader, Speaker, Content Creator, Podcast Host of Cafecito con Estrellita® and most importantly, a First-Generation Graduate.

How I Make Impact

I work with colleges, universities, organizations, and brands to create, develop, and present college readiness + graduate school exploration workshops, and university + scholarship campaigns for first-generation and Latinx + Hispanic students.

I coach students + graduates on how to explore career pathways and educational options that are aligned with their goals and interests. Together we take on operational, systems‐building, research, and transformational projects to improve the likelihood of student success through this support.

I am the guiding star they need, while they are paving their path, from student to graduate to professional.

I am a Speaker who adds value + inspires, and participates in panel discussions, loves collaborating with organizations on educational projects, hosting sharing circles, and offers new perspectives to colleges + universities, nonprofits and workplaces.

I am a Content Creator and Writer who is passionate about uplifting her first-gen Latine community at Cafecito con Estrellita through my cultural roots, authenticity, educational content, and vulnerability. You can find my published written work at Mitú, Sallie Mae, and Tadin Teas.

I am a Podcast Host + Higher Education Advocate - In 2020 I established Cafecito con Estrellita and for 3 years I have produced, recorded, and edited five podcast seasons that include both solo and interview episodes with first-generation graduates + professionals to serve as an accessible educational resource. I organized the themes of each episode to focus on academic resources and conversations on the cultural experiences within the first-generation Latinx community. Students + graduates could feel a sense of belonging and have direct access to lessons shared through Cafecito con Estrellita episodes + social media platforms. You can find my podcast features at Refinery29, and McCombs School of Business Magazine.

Why Do I Do This?

I am committed to breaking barriers + paving new paths in higher education for first-gen + Latines and beyond.

In 5 years I aspire to have a Physical Creative + Scholarly Space, for Latinx students and post grads, in Southern California. I want them to have a safe space to work + build community. I envision my company hosting monthly workshops on entrepreneurship 101, graduate school, and self-care. I also want to work in partnership with companies to create a Cafecito con Estrellita Scholarship Program for first-generation + Latine higher education students.

We need more Latinx representation in these spaces, it is my duty to give back. This is all connected to my personal life vision of being able to fulfill my purpose, as a First-gen Latina Leader for the current and future generation of Latines.

Leading a community of thousands of first-gen college students & graduates

In this talk, Estrella Serrato discusses her experiences as a first-generation higher education student. Her talk explores the cultural exclusivity in the college setting and how she personally found her path and earned her place as a graduate. Her story is inspirational, providing a unique perspective on diversity and achievement in college today.

(This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.)

Let’s have a cafecito!

Cafecito con Estrellita is an award nominated Latinx podcast, that guides first-generation scholars through higher education paths + post grad life through research, and with her own experiences. Estrella shares academic tips, consejos de la vida, Latine cultural conversations, and most importantly, she creates a safe space for first-gen to feel empowered.

  • Favorite Podcast!

I love this podcast so so much! The way she makes her audience feel welcomed and validated is amazing. The podcast touches on some deep subjects but she handles them all with grace and keeps if light and comforting. Only warning though, if you listen to one…be careful…you’re gonna be hooked!!:))

  • Must Listen!!

I’ve been listening to this podcast a few months ago and I love it. It’s made me aware of other paths I can take after finishing you’re undergrad. Estrella brings up themes that first-gen Latino(a) students face in college (I’m currently an undergrad myself). It makes me realize that I’m not the only one who’s facing these problems and there’s hope.

I actually listen this podcast when I feel anxious to calm myself or for comfort because it feels like having a big sister assuring you that you’ll be okay.

Can’t wait for the next season!

I just found this podcast today. I was immediately inspired and connected to the stories, the journey, and the pressures we put on ourselves as first generation LatinX learners finding our own paths. I wish I had this podcast in my undergrad and just recently finished my graduate studies 🎓 this podcast made me feel seen and validated my education journey. Thank you.

  • Such a gem!

This podcast is such a gem! Estrella hits the nail on the head every single episode by providing inspiration, empathy, and understanding to her audience maneuvering life as first-gen college students. I particularly appreciate the emphasis she puts on the importance of community college! She has inspired me to go for my Masters and I look forward to tuning in along the way to help push me through! ☕️📚💜

  • Charming and entertaining!

Estrella is a delight. It’s hard not to fall in love with her. She talks about a variety of topics relating to the Latinx community and drops truth bombs, too! She’s not afraid to speak her mind and share her knowledge. Grab a cafecito and prepare to be entertained!

  • I Want to be Estrella’s Friend

I love this podcast so much. Estrella goes into so many topics that are crucial during these times. I love listening to all she has to say. It is also so nice to have someone talk so much about education and academia. I really wish I had had this podcast to listen to when I was completing my bachelor’s degree; it would have brought me so much reassurance.

Estrella is extremely charismatic and it is obvious she cares and truly invests herself in this work. I swear I listen to episodes and think I want to get coffee and hang out with her! She feels like a friend. In addition, she has such a calm and soothing energy.

I could keep going on about why I love this podcast! Give it a listen; you will not be disappointed.
